In the interests of practicing my Japanese more (and maybe even making some Japanese friends), I've started a Japanese blog up on Yahoo!JP blogs. If you're interested you can read it here or via the syndicated feed on LJ, jenparker801. ;D

難しかったよ! I had to look up a LOT of kanji during the signups. And the hardest part is the categories @_@ Their blog system-- which is mostly pretty cool --wants you to put your entries in one of the categories they've set up, and translating those has proven fun.

I have spent a lot of time on the JDIC using the "look up kanji by radicals" feature.

I just find this so *amusing* I can't help posting it everywhere XD

The first volume of a particular BL manga, "Little Butterfly," has been nominated in the Graphic Novels category of the 2006 Children's and YA Bloggers' Literary Awards (aka the CYBiLS).

It's funny because the volume has a big ol' "EXPLICIT CONTENT" label on it XD

The first volume IS relatively kid-friendly; the label is for content in future volumes...but I would have guessed that the label would have automatically disqualified it regardless ^^;

Though I have to say I definitely find it very cool that a story involving two homosexual boys can still make its way onto an award nomination list. On the one hand, I hope they win-- a victory for the idea that it's okay for kids to be exposed to homosexuals without it traumatizing them or making them gay or whatever.

On the other hand...Amazon.com's picture of the cover is old (derived from the original JP cover, I believe), and doesn't have the EXPLICIT label on it. If it won, parents might continue ordering the series on amazon for their kids, get to volume 3-- and get to the sex scenes. And be upset. And THAT wouldn't be good for the US yaoi manga industry.

I just ordered one of Taishi Zaou's hard PuriPuri doujinshi :X I *almost* nabbed one of her Death Note doujin too, but decided I shouldn't spend too much.

But I ALSO almost bought the Host Club animation art book...but it didn't look like it had much new art, so I'd rather hold out for a manga art book.

Look at me, all pround that I only spent $29.50 =P (...I always wind up opting for the expensive shipping...cost about the same as the doujin T.T)

Day Off

November 17th, 2006 (08:30 am)

current mood: stressed

Unless terrorists fly into the Libre building or something (...god forbid O_O) I am officially taking the rest of the day off of YS.

From a logical standpoint, I know I didn't do anything wrong with the DQ leak post. And considering that the Consortium page was found by a search for "drama queen sakurai," it's pretty clear that if we hadn't found it, someone else would've.

But I still feel bad for DQ-- I think we may start an "Ask very specifically for permission to post and await the answer" policy when something this potentially big hits. We want to help keep people up on the BL news, obviously, but we don't want to ruin a publisher's day to do it. -_-;;

I love doing YaoiSuki. Love love love it. But as we get bigger, we brush up against more people, and a few events lately have been rather stressful. @_@;

So! Unless something big happens (like, say, Kitty announcing their new titles), I'm not going to do any additional posts to the site.

New Iconses

Yeah, yeah, I know I kept saying I was going to make icons of Sunako from Yamato Nadesico Shichihenge, but...she just doesn't make enough facial expressions =P

So instead I went with Revy from Black Lagoon. Seriously, if I lost fifty pounds, I would cosplay her.

So, I got some spam at my jen@yaoisuki e-mail address. I noticed it was from a hostgator account (hostgator is the new webhost for yaoisuki, which I thought was kind of a coincidence...and I forwarded it off to abuse@hostgator.com.

This morning I woke up to a suspended account. Because they'd received a spam complaint-- about me!

I checked the ticket and lo and behold: MY e-mail to the abuse department was the spam complaint. I read through the headers more thoroughly and it DOES appear that my server was used to send it.

But...you'd think when they were suspending my account, that they might have noticed that the spam complaint came from the same domain as the account being suspended!

Guess I should learn NOT to forward spam to the abuse department, lest I be blamed! Oh, and abuse is the *one* department I apparently *cannot* contact via phone-- only e-mail or the ticket system.

You guys were great with support for me when I was having trouble with the move, but you're losing points fast, hostgator.

If Anime Expo doesn't tighten its press pass policy from last year too much, YS might be able to attend as press there too. They want an average of 5000 unique visitors a month; our average from August through October is something like 7600, and growing :D:D

I don't think we're big enough for free Comic Con passes though ;) We'll see.

Hmm, Sakura Con is April 6-8. Fanime is end of May. Anime Expo will be around July 4th (not sure how they're going to work it this year-- the 4th is a Wednesday. Will they try and have the con run from the 4th through a weekend? Or will they just ignore the actual 4th this year? No idea.) And Comic Con is in the end of July.

I *might* be able to make all of these O.O; It's not a busy time for work, so I can take the time off as necessary (unpaid though; probably won't want to take it as PTO). But *three* airfares to California will be tough. (Sakura is in Seattle, so I'd drive-- but Fanime is in San Jose, AX is in Long Beach, and CC is in San Diego.) I do have a free airfare with Southwest, so I'd say Sakura and AX are both set...and I can probably afford one fare to California for Comic Con.

But getting home for Fanime...less sure about that one. We'll see. It's been years since I've gone, but I worry that I'll have too few people to hang out with there nowadays. All my friends have scattered! Okay, I could probably convince my heterolifemate (V-chan) to go with me, and ryuhayabusadoa1 will be there, but I dunno if I can convince jordanmarks or my erstwhile ManBitch* to go.

On the other hand, it's near my hometown, so free housing (unlike ANY of the other three).

Meh. We'll see.

EVERYTHING on yaoisuki is now functioning properly. Joomla works and the wiki works. I had to change the format for links on the wiki (from index.php/ArticleName/ to index.php?title=ArticleName), so I went back and changed all the wiki links from past articles...but there are probably still a few stray links throughout the site that I'll need to find and fix eventually.

But still! Tonight I'll finally be able to go to sleep and know that the site works again! At long long last!

So, a to do list:

For Saturday:
- J-Boys Review

For Tuesday:
- Rush review

In General:
- Work on Wiki. I realized that almost all of our articles still link to non-wiki profiles and stuff, because we started the wiki relatively recently...I'd like to go back and replace those links with wiki links, and add titles where necessary. I'd also like to flesh out more of the wiki articles with more information about each title, eventually...like, characters, plot, etc.
- Clean my goddamn bedroom.

For tonight, however? Nothing. Glorious, beautiful nothing. I hereby promise not to work on the site at all tonight. (Yes, I know I'll probably break that promise.)

But hey, tonight I can finally sink my teeth into FFXII a bit more. I'm still only like, two hours in! So sad! I'm making no specific plans this weekend, so I'll hopefully get through a good chunk of it then, too.

Amazing how busy I am, without even mentioning work o_o

Oh, and! I just did another article for Anime Insider, so pick up the December issue, bitches! (And if you didn't already, I wrote articles in every issue from August through November, too.)
